Dominique Melanson, 80, of Pré-d'en-Haut, died Wednesday at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital, Moncton, after a brief illness.

Born in Pré-d'en-Haut, he was a son of the late Siméon A. and Marguerite (Belliveau) Melanson and had been a carman with Canadian National Railway prior to his retirement. He attended the Notre Dame de l'Annonciation Roman Catholie Church, Pré-d'en-Haut, and was a member of the Pré-d'en-Haut Golden Age Club.

He is survived by his wife, the former Irène Richard; a daughter, Mrs. Pamphile Léger (Dorine) of St. Joseph; a son, Michel of Pré-d'en-Haut; three sisters, Mrs. Tim Arsenault (Bertha) of Fitchburg, Mass., Mrs. Jean Gaudet (Exia) of Dieppe and Mrs. Vital Richard (Edmée) of Pré-d'en-Haut; a brother, Blair of St. Joseph; four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Aurèle, Jimmy, Edée and Gilbert.

The body is at the Notre-Dame de l'Annonciation Roman Catholic Church, where funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
